Every day in the United States, it is estimated that almost 9,000 animals are euthanized in the shelter systems (that’s one animal every 8 seconds).
In 2015, in Los Angeles alone, 64,620 animals were killed. That’s 5,385 each month. 1,242 each week. 177 each day. 7 every hour.
Because there are simply not enough homes for all of these animals, the shelters eventually run out of space, and the animals who are not adopted will be killed.
Why is this happening? There are many reasons why dogs, cats and other animals end up in the shelter, but the root of this problem is pet overpopulation, which is a direct result of the irresponsible breeding operations of illegal puppy mills, unregulated and unlicensed breeders, and pet owners who do not spay & neuter their companions.
Hollywoof to the Rescue believes that the only solution to this epidemic lies in providing education, easily accessible resources to spay & neuter, community outreach programs, and activism within our local, state and federal governments.
Hollywoof is ready to take on the battle against pet overpopulation, and we are asking for your support.
As a charity, we are sustained by our dedicated volunteers who choose to donate their time and services towards furthering the Hollywoof mission. We are lucky and indebted to each of them, as without volunteers, we would not be here.
There are numerous ways you can help, and we believe that every individual has something special to contribute. Please email firstname.lastname@example.org, and tell us more about who you are. We look forward to welcoming you to Team Hollywoof!
